I couldn't go without them at this point. It takes stress off the wrists, allows more variations, and is easily the best form for push-ups. I personally recommend push-up bars for better form and range of motion.
A pull-up bar is essentially required as the resistance band technique for those are essentially useless. The handles should be farther apart than your shoulder width. I'd recommend one that gives you the ability to do wide-fly pull ups because those are the most effective on lats. I actually started with bands, but I wanted weights as soon as I could. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I'd highly recommend weights over bands if you can access them. The weights you're using should be enough to increase weight every couple of weeks or so over the course of 90 days while maintaining between 8-12 reps.
